Nio's ES9 SUV to reach 20,000th delivery this week

Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) will see the 20,000th delivery of its flagship electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), the ES9 , this week.
Yang Bo, the company's head of user operations, previewed the upcoming milestone in a Weibo post on Tuesday, thanking users for their support.
The ES9 was launched in China on May 27 , with the first deliveries beginning on May 28. That means the model took about 10 weeks to go from the start of deliveries to 20,000 units.
Nio reached the 10,000th ES9 delivery on June 26, with founder, chairman and CEO William Li attending the handover ceremony in person.
That implies the second 10,000 took about 6 weeks, suggesting the full-size SUV has sustained the momentum it built early after launch.
The ES9 saw 3,108 deliveries in the last four days of May and 8,595 in June, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) compiled by CnEVPost.
The ES9 starts at 498,000 yuan ($73,320) with the battery pack included, making it one of the most expensive local-brand models in China. With the BaaS (battery as a service) battery rental plan, the starting price drops to 390,000 yuan.
Higher-end versions come with two in-house-developed Shenji NX9031 smart driving chips as well as the SkyRide fully active suspension system.
Deutsche Bank estimated in June that the ES9 had already secured more than 25,000 non-cancelable orders, and raised its full-year 2026 delivery forecast for the model to 56,000 units.
The order backlog has also translated into long waiting times. Delivery lead times for the higher-end versions once stretched to 16 to 17 weeks before coming down to the current 13-14 weeks.
The ES9 and the ES8, which starts at 382,800 yuan, together form Nio's premium large SUV lineup. The ES8 saw 10,286 deliveries in July, returning above the 10,000 mark.
Higher-priced models are improving Nio's financials. Driven by its flagship products, the main Nio brand's average transaction price reached 443,000 yuan in June and 434,600 yuan in July .
Deutsche Bank expects Nio to reach non-GAAP breakeven in the second quarter, given the contribution from high-margin models.
Nio Inc delivered 35,934 vehicles in July , up 70.98% year-on-year but down 11.49% from June.
In the first 7 months of the year, the company delivered 227,057 vehicles, up 67.98% year-on-year.
