BYD (HKEX: 1211) has filed an updated Seal 07 for regulatory approval, with the mid-to-large-size sedan gaining larger dimensions and more powerful drivetrain options.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) included the updated Seal 07 in its latest catalog of new vehicles that will be cleared for sale, released on Friday.

The new model has 3 filing entries, covering both battery electric and plug-in hybrid versions.

The 5-seat sedan measures 5,080 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm.

That represents a significant increase over the current model. The Seal 07 EV launched in March measures 4,995 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,495 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.

The updated Seal 07 EV was filed with 2 powertrain variants. The lower-powered version has peak motor output of 245 kW and a curb weight of 1,975 kg.

The higher-powered version raises peak motor output to 300 kW and has a curb weight of 2,060 kg. Both have a top speed of 240 km/h.

The current Seal 07 EV uses a single 240-kW motor in a rear-wheel-drive layout.

Both updated EV variants use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which are expected to be BYD's second-generation Blade Battery. Battery capacity details are not yet available.

The plug-in hybrid version, the Seal 07 DM-i, uses a 1.5-liter engine with peak power of 115 kW.

Its drive motor has peak power of 160 kW, while top speed is 190 km/h and curb weight is 1,960 kg.

The plug-in hybrid also uses an LFP battery, with a capacity of 38.029 kWh and an electric-only range of 245 km.

The Seal 07 EV currently on sale was launched in March, with its 2 variants starting at 169,900 yuan ($25,020) and 189,900 yuan, respectively. Both use a 69-kWh second-generation Blade Battery and offer a maximum range of 705 km.

The 2026 Seal 07 DM-i, meanwhile, was launched in September last year , with its 4 variants starting at 149,800 yuan to 186,800 yuan.

BYD sold 419,211 vehicles in July , including 40,399 units from the Seal family, down 13.77% year-on-year.
