BYD launches 2027 Seal 06 with 630 km range, second-gen Blade Battery

BYD (HKEX: 1211) launched the 2027 Seal 06 sedan in Shenzhen on Tuesday, starting at 99,900 yuan ($14,712) and featuring the second-generation Blade Battery that supports flash charging.

The new model comes in 12 versions. The DM-i plug-in hybrid variants are priced from 99,900 yuan to 141,900 yuan, while the all-electric EV variants range from 109,900 yuan to 155,900 yuan.

By comparison, the current Seal 06 EV went on sale in June 2025 at prices between 109,800 yuan and 129,800 yuan. That means the updated model adds significantly more features at essentially similiar prices.

The 2027 Seal 06 comes with the LiDAR version of the God's Eye B driver assistance system, supporting urban navigation-guided driving, highway navigation-guided driving and all-scenario smart parking. The current model uses the vision-only God's Eye C system, which corresponds to DiPilot 100.

This is the first time the company has brought a LiDAR-equipped driver assistance system to a family sedan in this price range.

BYD said the new model comes with liability coverage for accidents in smart parking and urban navigation-guided driving, aiming to give users more confidence in using the assisted driving features.

The all-electric version comes with a flash charging platform and the second-generation Blade Battery as standard, offering a CLTC range of up to 630 km, up from 545 km in the previous generation. The peak power of the single motor rises to 120 kW and 240 kW, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 5.9 seconds.

BYD is offering EV buyers free flash charging for the first year, with the ultra-fast charging capability able to basically fully charge the vehicle in nine minutes. The company has built 7,018 flash charging stations in 325 Chinese cities, with a target of 20,000 by the end of 2026.

The DM-i version uses BYD's fifth-generation DM technology, with a CLTC all-electric range of up to 320 km, fuel consumption of 2.59 liters per 100 km when the battery is depleted, and a combined range of 2,370 km on a full tank and a full charge.

The new model adopts a new Ocean aesthetic design, measuring 4,870 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, making it longer than the current model.

The cabin features a 15.6-inch central control screen and the advanced version of the DiLink 150 smart cockpit, with DeepSeek AI built in. Higher-end variants offer the DiSus-C intelligent damping body control system.

The Seal series is one of BYD's main offerings in the affordable EV market, selling 518,412 units in 2025 and accounting for 11.26% of the group's sales in the same period, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Momentum has slowed this year, however. The series sold 40,399 units in July, down 13.77% year-on-year, and 210,541 units in the first seven months, down 15.60 percent.

The Seal 06 sits in a fiercely competitive segment of family sedans priced between 100,000 yuan and 150,000 yuan, with direct rivals including the Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) Galaxy A7 EM and the Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) Mona M03.
